Course Description:
Despite being advertised as romance, crime, horror, or heroism, many popular films are often revolve around work. This class will examine portrayals of working and having a job in films, drawing from critical economic, philosophical, and sociological theories of work. Various types of labor and the economic systems shaping them will be analyzed, with a particular focus on how gender and race influence onscreen representations of work. No expertise required.
