Little Free Libraries are well-known phenomenons in the Twin Cities. But have you ever seen a Little Free Lyceum?
The Little Free Lyceum is the Little Free Library that is dedicated exclusively to the circulation of philosophy (Charter # 149097). The Lyceum was started in Spring 2022 in the Nokomis East neighborhood of Minneapolis with the continuing spirit of promoting public philosophy.
Philosophy comes from the Greek philosophia, which translates to "the love and study of wisdom." The Lyceum was an ancient school where great thinkers would study philosophy and teach it to eager students. Philosophy is for anyone who wonders about the nature of the Good, life, death, and meaning... like you!
Books are donated by students and colleagues who are excited to see philosophical texts get a second life in their communities. Topics range from Aristotelian metaphyiscs, feminist philosophy, philosophical novels, contemporary ethics, children's books about philosophy.. the possibilities are endless, with the books in the Lyceum being shuffled weekly.
Take a book and enjoy.
"Wonder is the feeling of a philosopher, and philosophy begins in wonder." -Plato, Theaetetus, 155C-D.
